Hi James,
With cut-price transatlantic airfares, a stronger than usual exchange rate, and a breadth of free community programming offering value for money in-destination, there's much to be said for a holiday to New York this summer and beyond.
Please see the below data showing cheapest return fares to JFK from the UK and Europe, along with information about some of the free events and activities offered at the up-and-coming Hudson Yards neighbourhood in New York, home to notable attractions Edge and Vessel.
And, a little-publicised fact, British singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi is performing a set at Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens in August entirely free of charge and without the need to RSVP. His paid UK tour dates are completely sold out.
Do let me know if you would like any more information, high-resolution imagery, or if you would like to visit Edge, Vessel, and the experiences and events offered at both.
All best,
Will
PRESS RELEASE
18 July 2025
Why 2025 might be the best year to visit New York City
Reduced airfares this summer mean transatlantic travel can come at a steal and, in destination, travellers may find that attractions feel cheaper given the currently unusual strength of the pound and the euro to the dollar (£1 = $1.34, €1 = $1.16 as of 18 July 2025).
Furthermore, in summer – the season when cities arguably come alive – local organisations put on jam-packed community programming schedules which are often offered free of charge to locals and tourists alike. There’s much to be said for a Stateside sojourn to New York City for the rest of the year.
Favourable exchange rates and free community programming offer value for money and authenticity
From now until November in the Hudson Yards neighbourhood on the west side of Midtown Manhattan, New York – home to some of the city’s most popular attractions like Edge, City Climb, and Vessel – there’ll be countless free concerts, live sports screenings, theatre performances, fitness classes, film screenings, social events and more during the ‘Backyard at Hudson Yards’ series. Even Lewis Capaldi will be performing a set at Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens free of charge on 7 August 2025, with no RSVP required. His paid tour dates in the UK are completely sold out.
Plus, when you cop entry tickets to Edge (from £32), the western hemisphere’s tallest outdoor sky deck rising 1,131 feet in the air, you’ll also get to enjoy the likes of a sophisticated, sunset DJ set at ‘Vinyl and Views’, family-friendly renditions of music by The Beatles or Chappell Roan at the ‘Rock and Roll Playhouse’, or intimate Candlelight® concerts by Fever, meaning more value for money as a tourist.
A stronger pound and euro against the US dollar will mean holidaymakers from across the pond and across Europe will feel like they have more money in their pocket, so entry fees to some of the city’s busiest attractions like Edge, City Climb, Time’s Square and the Statue of Liberty, won’t be as dear. Plus, bills at restaurants won’t be as dear (and tourists can be more generous tippers!)
Airlines are biting back to offer cheaper airfares
Airlines flying transatlantic from the UK and Europe have cut their airfares this summer. As of 18 July 2025, travel search engine Skyscanner** finds the cheapest direct return flights between Gatwick and JFK starting from £256 with Norse Atlantic in October. Direct, round trips between JFK and other major European hubs look similarly as affordable, while numerous other cheaper fares were found for indirect connections or alternative New York airports.

Some consider September through November to be the perfect time to visit the city. September is one of the drier months when temperatures reach highs of mid-twenties, while October and November in autumn are a far cry from the biting winters of the UK and northern Europe.
