London Life Sciences Week 2025 launched at BIO International Convention
Global biotech gathering in London this November set to be largest ever
The UK’s Minster of State for Science, Research, and Innovation, Lord Patrick Vallance, London & Partners’ CEO, Laura Citron OBE, and Steve Bates OBE, CEO of the UK Bioindustry Association (BIA), are formally launching London Life Sciences Week on the UK stand at the BIO International Convention on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.
London Life Sciences Week (16-21 November 2025) comprises a range of conferences, networking events, and public engagements focused on innovation, investment, and the growth of life sciences companies across the length and breadth of the UK, anchored by the Jefferies Banking Healthcare Conference.
A fixture in the calendar of key investors, entrepreneurs, and global pharma players, the week in London has grown to become a global networking moment alongside other leading industry gatherings such as JP Morgan Week in San Francisco. 1,300 investors are expected at over 50 events in London during the week.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, Lord Vallance, said: “The UK’s £108 billion life sciences sector is a jewel in the crown of our economy, which is why it will play a central role in the Government’s forthcoming modern Industrial Strategy.
“From innovative medicines manufacturers in Liverpool to university spin-outs in Cambridge, the opportunities for investment and growth in this sector are vast. London Life Sciences Week is when we show the world that the UK is open for business on life sciences, as we look to harness this sector’s unique strengths to build a healthier, more prosperous Britain.”
London, as part of the UK Golden Triangle, is third globally and the top city in Europe for life sciences, ranking highly for its talent pipeline, leading research and development, strong funding environment, and business friendliness*.
Life sciences are a priority sector for the UK Government, and form one of the key parts of the forthcoming modern Industrial Strategy. The UK Government has committed up to £520 million to secure major life sciences manufacturing investments across the UK, through the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund. While £600 million is being invested, by Government with the Wellcome Trust, to create a new Health Data Research Service. This will provide a single, integrated system for approved researchers across all sectors to access health, social care, and public health data safely and securely.

London hosts a world-class life sciences cluster, home to over 2,700 companies, three of the world’s top 15 universities for health and clinical science, and 19 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies. London’s life sciences sector deployed $1.2 billion in venture capital investment in 2024*. The UK as a whole, is home to 4 of the world’s top 10 universities, and the Government committed to record-breaking funding for R&D at last week’s Spending Review – set to reach £22.6 billion by 2029-30.
