A Fish&Chips Could Cost You £28.97 in 10 Years, New Data Shows
Hi Simon,
How much more are Brits paying for their favourite snacks than they were five years ago?
To find out, Checkmyfile has launched a new Treatflation Calculator, allowing users to calculate the real-world impact of inflation on the most popular British snacks, drinks and meals – including everything from a Costa coffee and Greggs sausage roll to Terry’s Chocolate Orange and fish and chips.
Here is a sneak peek:
The interactive calculator allows users to:
- Calculate how much more individual treats cost today compared to 2021 and how much they might cost you in the years to come.
- Build a personalised basket of treats to see how much their spending habits have been affected by Treatflation.
- Explore future cost projections based on historical price growth trends to see what today’s treats could cost in the years ahead.
- Compare the extra annual spend created by common treat-buying habits.
To power the calculator, we analysed 25 iconic British treats and compared their prices in 2021 with prices in 2026. You can find the full analysis in the “Analysis” tab, within the calculator.
Key findings include:
- Britain’s favourite treats now cost 45.7% more than they did in 2021.
- Terry’s Chocolate Orange has seen the largest increase of any treat analysed, rising by 101.6% in just five years.
- A medium Costa coffee now costs 79.6% more than five years ago, adding an extra £507 per year for daily drinkers.
- A basket of everyday British treats that cost £100 in 2021 now costs £145.80 today.
- Fish and chips prices have risen by 61.2%, adding more than £220 per year to a weekly chippy habit.
