đGoogle searches for Sound Healing have tripled + stats, comments and classes
Hi Claudia,
Hope youâre well!
I will soon be sharing my 2025 wellness trends report! But first, I wanted to highlight a trend which has been growing exponentially this year and will continue into the New Year no doubt.
Sound Healing, once seen as an alternative âwellness tendâ has soared in popularity in London. Google searches for âsound healingâ have tripled between July 2020 and July 2024 (Telegraph, October 2024). Theyâre popping up like Pilates studios these days! Recent reports indicate that the sound therapy market is poised to expand at a compound annual growth rate of approx 25.3% from 2024 to 2030.
This trend is driven by increasing demand for wellness activities that support mental and physical relaxation. Londoners, particularly those in high-stress urban settings, are embracing sound therapy as an accessible form of stress management and meditation. Several venues and events in London now regularly feature sound baths, from boutique wellness studios to iconic sites like the Royal Albert Hall. âMany wellness centres across London are increasingly attracting overwrought workers, offering lunchtime sound baths to re-centre, re-energise and refocus for the afternoon, suggesting that acoustic immersion is more powerful than a remedial espresso at tampering the midday slumpâ (FT).
Why is sound healing so popular, particularly for those in high-stress urban settings?
âSound healing is growing in popularity because people are increasingly exploring alternative and holistic approaches to wellbeing, seeking nervous system reset and improved mental health without relying on medication. There is a growing emphasis on preventative mental health care which involves stress reduction and holistic self-care. Unlike some wellness practices, sound healing does not require prior training or physical effort so is accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Sound healing uses specific sounds and vibrations to promote physical and mental wellbeing. Research suggests that sound frequencies may help balance the body, influence brainwaves, and promote relaxation. Music therapy, the most studied form, has shown benefits in reducing anxiety, depression, and pain. Other techniques like binaural beats, Tibetan singing bowls, and chanting may also help reduce stress and improve mood by engaging and soothing the nervous system. The benefits of sound healing are further enhanced by creating an intentional space to rest and reflect. Sessions are often held in calming and containing environments with facilitators who use their presence to contribute to the soothing and reflective atmosphere. Participants typically close their eyes or use an eye mask, contributing to an internal focus and reflection that is hard to come by during a busy day. Sound sessions are experiential with multiple factors making them so effective so people should explore and find the right environment and facilitator to enhance the powerful effects that can be achievedâ â Madeleine Jago, Principal Clinical Psychologist and co-founder of Seven Lion Yard.
